History of Dresser, Wisconsin
The area of Dresser was established in 1861. In 1887, the first railroad line was
completed and on September 2 of that year, the first train came through. Sam
Dresser settled in the area and named the site "Dresser Junction" because of a
junction of two sections of railroad.
The Dresser Trap Rock mines were established in 1914. The company mined
"trap" or volcanic rock, the hardest rock in North America. It is still being mined
today. A ski area was established in 1950 and varied business attractions meet
the needs of a growing populace.
The village incorporated in 1919. "Junction" was dropped
from the village name in 1940.
